The course is designed to study the growth of Arabic literary tradition within the Islamic Scholarship context in West Africa; the main features of the Arabic writing in West Africa – the religious, the Maghrib or North African influences. The growth of poetry and prose, their main features, themes, style and diction, studies of some West African literary personalities such as Ahmad Baba of Timbuktu, Abdullah B. Fudi, Shaykh Amin El-Kanemy and others with selections from their writings.
